Our standards
Just The Wire exists because following the news should not require reading ten versions of the same story and guessing which parts are true. Our standards:
- Neutral synthesis. Summaries report what happened in plain language. No loaded adjectives, no framing tricks, no taking sides.
- Show the evidence. Every story links back to the original reporting it is built from, and says how many independent newsrooms confirm it.
- Say what is uncertain. Unconfirmed details are labeled as unconfirmed. We would rather show a gap than fill it with a guess.
- No sensationalism. Headlines describe the news. We do not exaggerate, and we do not manufacture urgency.
- No opinion content. Analysis and opinion pieces are not summarized as news.
Corrections
We will get things wrong sometimes. When we do:
- We correct the story record promptly.
- Significant corrections are noted on the story page itself, with what changed.
- If you spot an error, tell us. We read every report.
Review process
Software monitors sources and drafts story records, but nothing is published without human review. An editor checks each story’s summary, verification label, and sources before it goes live, and editors can override any automated judgment.
