How we use AI
Just The Wire uses software, including AI systems, to monitor news sources and draft story summaries. Here is exactly what that means and where the limits are.
What AI does
- Monitoring. Automated systems watch publisher feeds and group articles about the same event into story records.
- Drafting. AI drafts the neutral summary for each story from the collected reporting.
- Classification. Software makes a first pass at labeling article provenance (wire, original, syndicated) and verification status.
What AI does not do
- Nothing publishes itself. A human editor reviews every story before publication and can change or reject anything the software produced.
- No invented facts. Summaries are drawn from the linked reporting. If the reporting does not support a detail, the summary does not include it.
- No fabricated sources. Every linked source is a real article we actually collected.
- No AI-generated imagery presented as real. We do not publish synthetic photos or video as if they were documentation of events.
Why we say this
Trust requires knowing how the thing you are reading was made. AI makes this product possible at the speed of news; human judgment makes it trustworthy. If our use of AI changes in a way that matters to readers, we will update this page.
